F1 the Movie, an 2025 sports drama directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and produced in collaboration with Formula 1, this adrenaline-pumping film dives deep into the high-stakes world of F1 racing. With a soundtrack that’s pure fire, F1 is set to dominate theaters and IMAX screens on June 25, 2025, internationally, and June 27, 2025, in the US and Canada.
Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a former Formula 1 driver who was the sport’s golden boy in the 1990s until a devastating crash derailed his career. Now a nomadic racer-for-hire, Sonny’s living out of a van, haunted by his past and far from the glitz of F1 glory. Enter Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), the owner of the struggling fictional APXGP team, who recruits Sonny as a last-ditch effort, pairing him with Joshua “Noah” Pearce (Damson Idris), a cocky rookie with raw talent and a need for guidance.
The story is a classic underdog tale with a twist: Sonny and Joshua’s mentor-mentee dynamic quickly turns into a fierce rivalry. Filmed at iconic circuits like Silverstone, Monza, and Yas Marina, F1 captures the intensity of the sport with modified F2 cars designed by Mercedes-AMG to look like the real deal.

Adding to the film’s musical credibility is the involvement of Hans Zimmer, who composed the original score. This marks Zimmer’s second collaboration with director Joseph Kosinski after their successful partnership on “Top Gun: Maverick.” Interestingly, Zimmer previously scored “Rush” (2013), another acclaimed Formula 1 film, bringing his expertise in motorsport storytelling full circle.
